The Permanent Representative of Morocco to international organizations in Vienna, Azzeddine Farhane, reiterated on Wednesday Morocco’s commitment, under HM King Mohammed VI’s enlightened leadership to the principles of South-South cooperation and African solidarity.
Farhane made the statement during the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), held from September 15 to 19 in the Austrian capital.
The diplomat also highlighted Morocco’s ongoing commitment to supporting multilateral efforts and promoting initiatives that “embody our collective motto: Atoms for Peace and Development.”
He further emphasized the importance of cooperation and dialogue among IAEA member states, noting that in a context marked by increased political tensions, profound uncertainty, and significant challenges related to the growing demand for nuclear energy, it is necessary for all member states to renew their political commitment to the safe and secure use of nuclear technology applications.
Morocco, he continued, remains “fully committed to continuing to share its experience with its partners, both bilaterally and in cooperation with the IAEA, and with African countries, to promote the peaceful use of nuclear applications, science, and technology.”
In this context, he recalled that the Kingdom hosted two IAEA review missions, which highlighted “the robustness of the arrangements in place in Morocco to address nuclear and radiological emergencies,” and noted numerous practices that were particularly commendable, exceeding the safety standards set by the IAEA.
