Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi said Tuesday that the national team is approaching its upcoming fixtures “stronger than ever,” buoyed by a new generation of talent and the ambition to shine at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco.
“The team holds many talented young players and is stronger than ever. We still have to prove it on the field, especially during the AFCON,” the Moroccan midfielder stated during his official presentation at Girona FC, coming from Olympique de Marseille.
Ounahi, semifinalist in the 2022 World Cup with the Atlas Lions, believes that the national team will be “more successful” than during the historic feat in Qatar.
With Girona, where he has signed until 2030 and already played his first minutes on Sunday against Celta Vigo, he says he chose the Spanish club for its “sporting project” and its suitability with his play style.
The president of the Catalan club, Delfí Geli, praised the “quality” and “determination” of Azzedine Ounahi, who will bear the number 18.
Azzedine Ounahi expects a “particularly busy” season, between La Liga and the Africa Cup of Nations, but says he is ready to “work very hard” to meet expectations at both club and international level.
