Morocco’s Ministry of Economy and Finance said 57,783 applicants have completed the process to receive direct housing subsidies under a government program aimed at supporting middle- and low-income families.
The figure, recorded as of July 29, represents beneficiaries from a total of 177,308 applications submitted since the program was launched last year. According to a written response from Economy and Finance Minister Nadia Fettah Alaoui to parliament, 159,074 preliminary requests — about 90% of applications — were approved.
Women make up 46% of those who received support, while Moroccans living abroad account for 24%, the ministry said.
Since the program’s rollout, the government has disbursed 4.7 billion dirhams ($465 million) to beneficiaries. Of that, 2.2 billion dirhams went to 21,955 people who bought homes valued at 300,000 dirhams or less, including taxes. Another 2.5 billion dirhams was allocated to 35,828 beneficiaries who purchased homes priced between 300,000 and 700,000 dirhams.
Casablanca-Settat leads with the highest number of beneficiaries at 20,343, representing 35% of total recipients. Fès-Meknès follows with 17,515 beneficiaries, or 30%. At the bottom of the list, Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab reported only three recipients.
The government has increased funding in response to growing demand. While 2 billion dirhams was initially allocated for the program in 2024, spending reached 2.8 billion dirhams. For 2025, 3.62 billion dirhams has been budgeted, of which 1.97 billion has already been spent this year, Alaoui said.
Officials credit the program with stimulating the housing and construction sectors. Cement sales rose 10% in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period last year, while housing starts increased by 39% in 2024 compared with 2023.
