The Moroccan city of Tangier has become the set for scenes of the U.S. television series The Agency, in a production that underscores Morocco’s growing appeal for international film and television shoots.
According to local sources cited by Hespress, American actor and director George Clooney, attached to the project as producer for Showtime, is not on site, with an international crew handling the filming. Moroccan authorities have deployed security and logistical resources to facilitate the shoot, which is expected to run through late September.
Scenes are being filmed in an apartment on Mexico Street, near the historic Sour Maâgazine square, and across alleys and landmarks of the old medina. Though shot in Tangier, the storyline is set in Beirut, with producers leveraging architectural similarities and a shared Mediterranean setting to recreate the Lebanese capital.
The Agency is categorized as a political thriller with espionage themes, designed to appeal to a global audience. The production has transformed parts of Tangier’s historic core, with foreign actors and technical crews bringing unusual vibrancy to the streets of the “Bride of the North.”
