The United Arab Emirates rose to become Morocco’s leading investor in 2024, accounting for 18.9% of total net foreign direct investment (FDI) flows, according to the Foreign Exchange Office.
Net inflows from this country rose by 57.8% to MAD 3.1 billion, the Office said in its 2024 report.
For its part, net FDI flows from Germany amounted to MAD 2.1 billion in 2024, compared to MAD 1.4 billion a year earlier, followed by those from China (MAD 2.05 billion).
In total, net FDI flows to Morocco showed an improvement in the surplus balance of MAD 5.6 billion, reaching MAD 16.3 billion in 2024.
This situation is attributed to the marked recovery during the past year in the net flow of debt instruments, which almost quadrupled (+7.2 billion dirhams), combined with a 14.9% increase in the net flow of equity securities.
