French club Olympique Marseille has finalized a deal to sign Moroccan international defender Nayef Aguerd from West Ham United. The 29-year-old defender has agreed to a contract that will keep him with Marseille until 2030.
According to French media reports, the transfer fee is valued at approximately €23 million. Aguerd arrived in Marseille this morning to complete his medical examinations and officially sign his contracts on the final day of the summer transfer window.
The signing comes at the request of coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is looking to reinforce the backline ahead of upcoming challenges, particularly the Champions League. The defender’s own desire to return to France’s “Ligue 1” reportedly played a significant role in finalizing the deal. Aguerd comes to Marseille after a distinguished season on loan with Real Sociedad, where he played in 36 matches across all competitions.
This move marks a return to the French league for Aguerd, who previously had stints with Dijon and Rennes before his transfer to the English Premier League.
