The total amount of foreign currency seized during traveler inspections reached MAD 167 million in 2024, an increase of 59% compared to the previous year, according to the Customs and Indirect Tax Administration (ADII).
Last year, the ADII intensified its efforts to monitor currency movements and prevent money laundering by strengthening the capabilities of customs brigades, organizing specialized training in the field, and improving coordination with other security services, the Administration stated in its 2024 activity report.
This increase is attributed to enhanced surveillance at border crossing points, better targeting of high-risk profiles, and more active collaboration with intelligence services.
At the same time, the ADII reported that 15,572 foreign currency declarations were recorded at various border offices, compared to 12,515 declarations in 2023, representing a total value of over 2.5 billion dirhams (MMDH).
