Moroccan date producers expressed optimism about the 2025 harvest, forecasting a sharp rebound in output and quality after years of drought depressed yields and damaged palm groves.
Growers in southeastern provinces, particularly oasis regions, told Hespress they expect production to rise by as much as 50 percent compared with last year, supported by favorable rainfall and higher temperatures that accelerated ripening.
Abdelbar Belhassan, head of the Moroccan Federation for Date Marketing and Valorization, said the harvest shows “positive signs of abundance and quality,” with previously scarce varieties returning to local markets.
Packing stations and cooperatives are already preparing to handle larger volumes, he added, ensuring Moroccan consumers will have access to 100 percent locally grown dates at reasonable prices.
Fouad Ajdir, a marketing professional in Figuig, confirmed expectations of a “promising season,” noting plentiful yields of local varieties such as Aziza and Fgouss.
