Morocco has reinforced its aerial firefighting capacity with the arrival of an additional Ayres 710P Turbo Thrush, bringing the fleet of this type to eight aircraft stationed at Salé air base.
The new unit complements an existing fleet adapted from agricultural use to forest fire suppression, as the country steps up measures against seasonal blazes.
The American-built turboprop, powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6A-65AG engine, can carry nearly 2,700 liters of water or retardant and is designed for low-altitude maneuverability in rugged terrain. Its deployment, alongside Canadair CL-415s, provides Morocco with a flexible and efficient dual system to counter recurring wildfires, particularly in the north and Rif regions.
The move underscores Morocco’s strategy of progressive investment in prevention and rapid response to climate-driven natural disasters, with forest protection and civilian safety placed as strategic priorities amid increasingly severe summer fire seasons.
