Morocco’s annual “Marhaba” operation, designed to welcome back Moroccans residing abroad during the summer holidays, is seeing record participation in 2025, with arrivals up 10 percent compared to last year, according to figures from the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
As of August 14, a total of 3,243,920 members of the diaspora had entered the country, highlighting the scale of the seasonal influx through both ports and airports. Maritime routes accounted for the majority, with 1,788,254 arrivals, or 55 percent of the total, led by Tangier Med Port which alone handled 35.3 percent of entries.
Air travel brought in 1,455,666 passengers, led by Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport with 25.3 percent of arrivals.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which oversees the social and logistical aspects of the program, reported that 57,099 individuals benefitted from assistance ranging from medical aid to customs facilitation and transport support.
Medical services were provided to 4,186 people, administrative and customs assistance to 12,636, transport support to 1,031, and miscellaneous help to 39,246.
To meet rising demand, the scope of “Marhaba” was expanded this year with two new reception centers at Laayoune and Dakhla airports, bringing the total to 20 nationwide and six abroad.
A workforce of 1,455 staff has been mobilized, including 1,158 social workers and more than 250 doctors and nurses, alongside institutional staff and volunteers.
The “Marhaba” operation, launched in 2001, has become a cornerstone of Morocco’s diaspora engagement policy, ensuring logistical coordination for millions who return annually.
