French security services have arrested a 40-year-old Moroccan doctor suspected of a crime of “assault and battery leading to death” against his wife, who was also a doctor. The suspect was apprehended in the city of Lyon after a large-scale international search.
The victim, aged 36, worked at the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in the Fez-Meknes region. Her disappearance was initially reported under mysterious circumstances. Subsequent investigations led to the discovery of her body buried in the garden of her husband’s family home in the Ahad Oulad Zbair area of Taza province. It is suspected that the husband allegedly killed his wife in Fez before transporting her body and burying it in Taza to hide the crime.
The suspect, who himself worked at the Ghassani Regional Hospital in Fez, had been missing since entering French territory about two weeks ago. He was arrested in Lyon after arriving from Nice a day or two earlier. His capture was made possible by an international arrest warrant issued by Moroccan judicial authorities in Fez. Moroccan security authorities have been notified of the arrest, and extradition proceedings are expected to begin within about a week.
