Moroccan authorities have arrested an Israeli citizen, who also holds French nationality, upon his arrival at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, based on an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol, according to a report by the Israeli news outlet Mako.
The man, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, had reportedly traveled to Morocco for a vacation, unaware that he was internationally wanted in connection with a kidnapping and extortion case involving a relative in Israel.
According to Mako, the arrest stems from a complaint filed in France by the alleged victim, a family member now residing there, who accused the suspect of abducting him and demanding a ransom of €200,000.
French authorities launched an investigation following the complaint and requested that Interpol issue a Red Notice against the suspect, who is reportedly from the Sharon Plain region in Israel.
Upon landing in Casablanca last week, the man was immediately arrested and later transferred to a detention facility in Rabat, where he remains in custody pending a court decision on his extradition to France.
Despite denying all accusations during preliminary proceedings, French authorities have reportedly submitted a comprehensive case file to Moroccan officials, including witness statements and other supporting evidence.
A final ruling on the extradition request is expected in the coming days. A source familiar with the case told Mako that the suspect appeared visibly shocked when he was handcuffed upon arrival in Morocco.
