Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid announced Monday that Morocco is preparing a new law to regulate digital content creation, addressing the exploitation of children and the elderly online.
During a parliamentary Q&A session, Bensaid stressed that responsibility lies with families, institutions, and society at large. “The government and all its members are concerned by this issue,” he stated.
The ministry, in partnership with the national data protection commission, launched an awareness campaign across youth centers to educate families about the risks of such exploitation. The draft law seeks to fill a legal vacuum, as only the penal code currently governs the field.
Bensaid also outlined plans to expand cultural infrastructure, support artistic production, and strengthen intangible heritage protections. He highlighted ambitions to increase culture’s contribution to Morocco’s GDP from a current 2.7 to 4 percent range to 6 percent by 2033, citing the booming video game and film sectors as key growth engines.
