The US Embassy in Morocco said Tuesday that all applicants for F, M, or J nonimmigrant visas must immediately set their personal social media accounts to “public” to facilitate identity and security vetting.
The measure, it said aimed at verifying admissibility under U.S. law, applies to student, vocational, and exchange visas, calling visa adjudication a national security decision.
“Effective immediately, all individuals applying for an F, M, or J nonimmigrant visa are requested to adjust the privacy settings on all of their personal social media accounts to ‘public’ to facilitate vetting necessary to establish their identity and admissibility to the United States under U.S. law” read the statement.
