The Moroccan government has approved the creation of the “Morocco 2030” institution to coordinate preparations for major sporting events, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision was announced Thursday following a government council meeting, with Minister Delegate Mustapha Baitas explaining the institution’s role in steering national infrastructure and development efforts at a press briefing.
“Morocco 2030” will accelerate key projects such as stadium construction and renovation, airport expansion, high-speed rail extension, and broader infrastructure upgrades.
It will be tasked with overseeing the organization of international football events, especially the 203 FIFA World Cup, ensuring Morocco meets its obligations as outlined in the official hosting agreement.
The institution, he said, will coordinate across departments currently managing these initiatives.
Its responsibilities also include planning and overseeing event logistics, supporting involved regions and cities, and promoting Morocco’s image on the global stage.
The minister also said that about 170,344 people from Morocco’s 12 regions had enrolled in the housing aid scheme, with 55,512 already having benefited, revealed the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas.
, Baitas noted that 76.3% of the applicants are residents living in Morocco, whereas 23.7% are Moroccans living abroad. He emphasized that about 90% of those registered are eligible for the support (89.43%).
As to property value, Baitas revealed that 62% are for houses worth between MAD300,000 and MAD700,000, while 38% are for houses worth below MAD300,000.
He also pointed out that women make up 46% of the beneficiaries, with men making up 54%. The average age of applicants is 41, and about 37% are young people under 35 years old.
Regarding geographic distribution, Fez tops the list for the number of applications, followed by Berrechid, Meknes, Kenitra, Casablanca, Jadida, Benslimane, Settat, Oujda, and Barkane.
Baitas stressed that the housing support program is just one of several initiatives launched by the government.
He criticized the previous housing system, saying that the aid was given to a specific segment within the social housing sector, and many citizens weren’t even aware it existed.
The new approach, he explained, is to encourage demand, with Citizens themselves now submitting applications for direct support.
An online platform has been made available, accessible both from within Morocco and abroad.
Baitas stressed that it’s too early to fully assess the success of the program. Many initiatives are still in progress at a national level, and more time is needed to have a clearer picture.
Only then will the government be able to properly judge the extent to which this program is helping citizens access housing, he continued.
