Morocco’s aquaculture sector continues its expansion, with 183 farms now operational and aiming for over 71,000 tons in annual production, according to figures presented at the 25th board meeting of the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA), held Tuesday in Rabat.
Chaired by Secretary of State Zakia Driouich, the session reviewed 2024 achievements and outlined strategic goals. Driouich emphasized aquaculture’s growing role in Morocco’s blue economy, citing its contribution to job creation, value chains, and competitiveness.
An additional 64 projects are in the equipment acquisition phase, expected to add 16,000 tons in capacity. The ecosystem includes private operators covering the full value chain.
Three hatcheries are active, and two more are being installed to boost seed supply. Downstream, 13 new processing units are now operational.
To support competitiveness, the 2024 Finance Law extended reduced import tariffs (2.5%) on fish feed until 2026. These gains reflect the sector’s progress under the Halieutis strategy.
