Saudi club Al Hilal’s journey in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup ended in the quarterfinals after a 2-1 defeat to Brazil’s Fluminense on Friday at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
Despite coming off a dramatic 4-3 extra-time win over Manchester City, Al Hilal couldn’t replicate the upset. Fluminense took the lead in the 40th minute , who capitalized on a defensive error.
Hilal equalized early in the second half with a calm finish from Marcos Leonardo, his fourth goal of the tournament.
However, substitute Hercules Pereira scored the decisive goal in the 70th minute, securing Fluminense’s place in the semifinals.
Al Hilal’s late efforts fell short despite attacking changes from coach Simone Inzaghi and heavy pressure in stoppage time.
The match opened with a minute of silence honoring Portuguese star Diogo Jota and his brother, who died in a car accident, observed respectfully by over 43,000 fans.
