A massive forest fire has been raging for three consecutive days in the Adandoun forest, located within the Tilouguite commune in Azilal province, consuming approximately 12 hectares of woodland so far.
The firefighting efforts have been hampered by the region’s rugged terrain, which continues to challenge ground response teams.
Authorities have intensified their operations to contain the blaze. On Monday, a reconnaissance aircraft arrived at the scene, accompanied by two specialized Canadair water bombers deployed to suppress the advancing flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby forested areas.
According to local officials, the two Canadair aircraft completed around 14 aerial water drops throughout the day. Drawing water from the nearby Bin el Ouidane Lake, the aircraft carried out precise operations targeting fire hotspots — showcasing their effectiveness in tackling wildfires due to their high-capacity tanks and rapid refill capability.
Despite the joint mobilization of civil protection forces, Royal Gendarmerie units, auxiliary forces, local authorities, and staff from the Water and Forests Administration, containment efforts remain difficult. The dense vegetation and mountainous landscape have made it extremely challenging to bring the fire under control, allowing it to gradually spread over the past 48 hours.
Authorities are continuing to deploy all available air and ground resources to fight the fire amid growing concern over further expansion, especially given the hot and dry weather conditions prevailing in the region during this time of year.
The situation remains under close surveillance as emergency teams push to contain the fire before it threatens nearby villages or protected woodland zones.
