MINURSO inspects rocket impact sites near Smara following Polisario attack

The MINURSO conducted Friday a field visit to inspect the sites where four projectiles landed near the city of Smara.

Accompanied by members of the Royal Armed Forces, the mission aimed to document the incident for a detailed report to be submitted to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Authorized sources confirmed that MINURSO teams examined one impact site near their own base, as part of an investigation into a breach of the 1991 ceasefire agreement by the Polisario Front.

The inspection focused on identifying the types and trajectories of the projectiles.

The findings will be included in the Secretary-General’s annual report to the UN Security Council, a key document in upcoming discussions on the Western Sahara conflict, expected in October.

The rockets fell in uninhabited areas and caused no casualties or damage. Polisario later claimed responsibility, saying it had targeted “enemy military positions.”
