Russian authorities are set to extradite a Moroccan citizen who was arrested in the city of Kirov after fleeing Morocco following a major fraud case, according to Russian media citing the prosecutor’s office.
The suspect is wanted by Moroccan courts for forgery and embezzlement related to a 2022 case in Fez, where he allegedly faked a company power of attorney and other documents to misappropriate over one million dirhams before fleeing the country.
Russian courts have approved the extradition request and tasked the Federal Prison Service with carrying out the handover after confirming that no appeal had been filed.
The extradition follows a 2016 bilateral agreement between Rabat and Moscow outlining legal procedures and safeguards for the transfer of suspects.
The treaty, signed during King Mohammed VI’s visit to Russia, defines conditions for extradition including the nature of the offense and protections for the accused.
