The Moroccan Embassy in Accra announced on Thursday that Ghanaian nationals holding ordinary passports are now exempt from visa requirements when entering Morocco.
Ghanaian travelers will only need to complete an Electronic Travel Authorization to Morocco (ETAM) form online at www.acces-maroc.ma prior to departure.
The new policy which took effect on June 6, follows high-level talks held in Rabat on June 5 between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Diplomatic passport holders from Ghana have already been exempt from both visas and the ETAM process.
According to the Moroccan embassy, the visa waiver aims to deepen diplomatic ties and expand cultural and economic cooperation between Rabat and Accra.
The move also comes shortly after Ghana reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, calling it “the only serious and credible basis for a mutually acceptable solution.”
