Moroccan authorities thwarted an attempted irregular migration operation on Wednesday at the Douar Noujoum beach, in the rural commune of Chtouka, El Jadida province, detaining several individuals — including suspects already wanted by justice.
According to an official Hespress AR source, the suspects deliberately set fire to their own watercraft in a failed attempt to destroy evidence and flee before Royal Gendarmerie officers, who responded swiftly and decisively, could intervene.

The operation led to the seizure of marine equipment, supplies, and other logistical tools that had been prepared for the unauthorized sea crossing.
In a parallel incident, another gendarmerie patrol in Bir Jdid intercepted a related smuggling attempt tied to an organized criminal network. Authorities uncovered a partially buried inflatable boat, a marine engine, and a significant quantity of hashish intended for maritime trafficking.

Initial investigations suggest that both operations were meticulously planned by transnational smuggling networksinvolved in irregular migration and international drug trafficking. However, the proactive and precise interventionby Royal Gendarmerie units prevented their execution.

These actions form part of Morocco’s broader security strategy to combat human trafficking and drug smuggling networks operating along its Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines.
