Spanish football giant FC Barcelona has received a lucrative offer to play a high-profile friendly match in Casablanca, Morocco, on July 20, as part of its preseason preparations for the upcoming campaign. The decision now hinges on newly appointed coach Hansi Flick, who will have the final say.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the proposed plan includes a same-day round trip for the Catalan squad, taking advantage of the short two-hour flight between Barcelona and Casablanca. The organizers are offering a substantial financial package to secure the club’s participation.
The invitation follows a surge in Barcelona’s marketing value after a successful season, during which the club won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
While the opportunity is commercially appealing, Barcelona’s top priority remains technical and physical preparation. Coach Flick, known for his disciplined approach to preseason training, is reportedly reluctant to compromise on the team’s preparation schedule. The club has made it clear that no decision will be made without his full approval.
Barcelona’s preseason officially kicks off on July 13, with the proposed Casablanca match penciled in for July 20. Players are expected to rest on July 21, before resuming training and heading to Japan on July 23, where they are set to face Vissel Kobe on July 27.
If approved, the Casablanca match would mark a rare appearance for the Catalan club in North Africa, a move that could further strengthen its fan base in the region.
