Peru’s Congressional Foreign Relations Committee has approved a motion urging the country’s executive branch to support Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
The motion, introduced by congresswoman Patricia Juárez Gallegos of the Popular Force party, passed with 10 votes in favor and only four against, according to the legislature’s official portal.
The resolution describes Morocco’s autonomy plan as a “serious proposal consistent with international law” and calls on Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to adopt a supportive position.
It highlights the longstanding diplomatic ties between Morocco and Peru, which date back to 1964, and are built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared adherence to international legal norms.
The motion also warns the international community about the Polisario Front’s alleged links to terrorist groups, as well as to arms and human trafficking networks and the exploitation of minors in the Tindouf camps.
It urges international organizations to investigate and prosecute these activities, citing reports from global think tanks warning of destabilizing efforts by the Tehran–Hezbollah–Polisario axis in North Africa.
The document further calls on sovereign states to evaluate the classification of the Polisario as a terrorist organization and adopt measures to neutralize its threats, framing these concerns within a broader appeal for upholding peace, security, human rights, and international law.
