In a show of solidarity and community spirit, professional taxi drivers across Morocco, particularly in Casablanca and surrounding areas such as Berrechid, are offering free transportation to students during their national exams, helping them reach test centers smoothly and without logistical hurdles.
Speaking to Hespress, a taxi union representative said the initiative aims to support Moroccan students by easing one of the main challenges they face during exam season — reliable transportation.
“The goal is to ensure students take their exams in calmer, less stressful conditions,” he said.
Beyond transportation, participating drivers are also offering emotional support.
“Many of us share our experiences from past exams, hoping to help students cope with the anxiety and pressure that often accompany these tests,” the representative added, noting that fear and stress were among the most significant factors affecting exam performance.
This exam season initiative is part of a broader tradition of social engagement among Moroccan taxi drivers.
Similar efforts have previously included offering free rides to people with disabilities and to patients in need of medical care, especially those facing financial hardship.
In Casablanca alone, over 20 taxis have joined this volunteer operation. “We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students and their families,” said Youssef Marzouk, regional secretary of the National Union of Taxi Professionals in Casablanca.
“Despite the tough conditions taxi drivers endure, their strong sense of humanity makes them a vital pillar of society.”
In Marrakech, a photo of a local taxi driver participating in the initiative garnered widespread praise on social media. Abdelhaq El Bahri, secretary-general of the General Union of Moroccan Workers in the city, highlighted that such gestures are part of a broader culture of daily solidarity: “Taxi drivers here routinely offer free rides to people with disabilities and the sick. These actions reflect the deep humanitarian values of our professionals.”
The ongoing efforts underscore the strong communal bonds in Morocco and the pivotal role that taxi drivers play, not just as transport providers, but as empathetic members of the community striving to make a positive difference.
