A wildfire broke out Tuesday in the Houara forest, located between the cities of Tangier and Asilah, destroying an estimated 30 hectares of vegetation.
Local authorities confirmed to Hespress that firefighting teams, including ground units and two Canadair aircraft, have been battling the flames since morning, but strong eastern winds and high temperatures have severely hampered containment efforts.
The fire’s rapid spread has sparked alarm among residents of nearby coastal villages, as flames push southward and eastward. Concerns are growing that the blaze could reach the Tahrart thermal power station if not brought under control.
The current conditions echo the devastating wildfires of summer 2022, which swept through northern Morocco and left significant damage in the Larache region.
