A religious guide has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Court of First Instance in Tinghir. The sentence was delivered on Monday after he was convicted on charges of “grooming a minor” and “indecent assault on a minor without violence.”
The man, who served as a religious guide in the Kelaat M’Gouna area was arrested by Royal Gendarmerie officers in the city of Kelaat M’Gouna. His arrest came after security services received information about a person seen with a minor girl in a suspicious situation in a local field.
According to the same sources, authorities tracked the suspect with the minor and located them later that day in another area. This led some citizens to alert the Royal Gendarmerie, who intervened immediately and apprehended him.
The suspect was then presented before the Prosecutor at the Tinghir Court of First Instance. After an official questioning regarding the allegations, the prosecutor decided he would be prosecuted while in detention, leading to the court’s one-year prison sentence.
