The Israeli army has launched investigations into multiple cases where soldiers allegedly forced Palestinians to act as human shields in Gaza.
The military confirmed that its criminal division (MPCID) is probing these incidents after reports surfaced of Palestinians being coerced into entering buildings and tunnels to check for explosives and gunmen.
According to an Associated Press investigation, the practice has become widespread during the 19-month war.
Seven Palestinians recounted being used as shields, while Israeli soldiers admitted to the tactic, often called the “mosquito protocol.” Former soldiers and rights groups say the method is not isolated but institutionalized.
One Palestinian man, detained for 17 days, said he was ordered to inspect homes before soldiers entered.
Human rights advocates warn of a systemic moral failure, noting that the same Israeli authorities who condemn Hamas for using human shields are tolerating similar actions by their own forces.
