A Casablanca court has sentenced several relatives and associates of Moroccan TikTok personality Hicham Girando for their alleged involvement in insulting constitutional institutions and other related offenses.
The Ain Sebaa misdemeanor court issued its verdict late Wednesday after deliberations. Girando’s sister received a suspended two-month prison sentence and a fine of 20,000 dirhams (approximately $2,000). Her husband was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 40,000 dirhams, while their son was handed a three-year prison sentence along with the same fine.
Four other individuals connected to Girando, who currently resides abroad, were also convicted. Two received three-year prison terms and fines of 20,000 dirhams each. A third defendant was sentenced to two years in prison, and the fourth was given a one-year sentence with a 40,000-dirham fine.
The public prosecution had charged the defendants with “participation in insulting a constitutional body,” “insulting a regulated institution,” “spreading false allegations intended to harm privacy and reputation,” and “participation in issuing threats.” One suspect also faced an additional charge of “insulting a lawyer during the exercise of his duties.”
In response to the ruling, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), through its Taza branch, issued a statement condemning the verdicts and expressing solidarity with the family.
