Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune used a recent meeting with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar to present Algeria as a peace-driven nation committed to regional and global stability.
He claimed that since independence, Algeria has played a major role in mediating conflicts through non-violent means, an assertion that stands in stark contrast to its escalating tensions with neighboring countries and persistent interference in regional issues.
Tebboune’s portrayal of Algeria as a neutral international mediator is particularly at odds with its ongoing support for the Polisario Front and its obstructive stance on the Moroccan Sahara, despite mounting international backing for Morocco’s autonomy plan.
He also reiterated outdated UN-led negotiation frameworks, sidelining the Security Council’s evolving preference for realistic, lasting solutions.
Algeria’s professed commitment to peace is further contradicted by strained diplomatic ties and border closures with neighbors, revealing a diplomatic façade increasingly out of step with its actions.
