Morocco’s national library releases first-ever report on publishing industry
Saturday 26 April 2025 - 14:09

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco presented Friday its first-ever report on the state of publishing and books in Morocco for 2024.

The event, attended by professionals, researchers, and culture enthusiasts, marked a milestone in the library’s mission to collect, preserve, and promote national and international documentary heritage.

BNRM Director Samira El Malizi emphasized that the report is a foundational step, serving as the first institutional publication to track Morocco’s editorial production for an entire year.

The initiative aims to provide accurate, reliable data to support publishing policies, enhance cultural production, and clarify the legal and regulatory framework governing the sector.

The report reveals that 6,838 publications were released in 2024, with 66% in Arabic, 26% in French, and 4% in English. Private publishers account for 72% of the total, with the Casablanca-Settat and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regions leading national production.
