On the eve of La Liga’s bottom-of-the-table clash with Real Valladolid, Manuel Pellegrini gave a full rundown of his squad, not forgetting to mention Abdessamad Ezzalzouli’s return to form.
Back from injury, Ez Abde seems at last to be back to his best, as his coach confirmed. “Like all players, he has his ups and downs. He started the season well, then tried to force certain actions, was held back by injury and competition with Jesús… But today, he’s back to being the player we all hope he’ll be,” praised Pellegrini. A return to form that comes at just the right time for the end of the season.
With 26 appearances this season, the La Masia-trained player is enjoying plenty of playing time with the current sixth-placed team in La Liga. His performances, however, have been more inconsistent. A malleolus injury sustained at the end of February forced him to take some time off, which slowed his momentum. Back in the starting XI on Monday against Girona, he put in an encouraging performance that could boost his confidence for the final stretch of the championship.
Last October, Ezzalzouli extended his contract with the Spanish club until 2029. The young striker has also become a key member of the national and Olympic teams, with whom he won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
