The Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation (FRMBB) has temporarily suspended all national basketball league competitions, across all divisions, effective immediately from April 21, 2025.
In a statement, the Federation cited “force majeure” circumstances beyond its control as the reason for the emergency halt. The decision stems from several critical issues, including the termination of the Federation’s sports insurance contract due to unpaid premiums, which impacts safety guarantees for players and staff. Additionally, Federation employees have entered an open-ended strike over delayed salaries and benefits, and a complete cutoff of phone and internet services has crippled essential administrative and communication functions.
The Federation stated it took this difficult step due to the critical situation. It linked the problems to financial pressures, noting it has not received the second part of its government grant from last season, nor the grant for the current, nearly finished season.
The suspension is temporary, aiming to resolve the financial constraints and establish suitable conditions for a safe and legal resumption of play.
The FRMBB expressed deep regret for the suspension and affirmed its commitment to restoring the normal schedule as soon as possible, promising to update stakeholders on the situation.
