A 19-year-old woman was sentenced Friday to nine months in prison by a Marrakesh court for physically assaulting high school student Salma with a razor blade and engaging in online defamation, judicial officials said.

The defendant, AG, was convicted by the criminal chamber of the Marrakesh Court of First Instance. In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of 2,500 dirhams and ordered her to pay civil damages of 30,000 dirhams to the victim, whose story ignited condemnation and sympathy on social media.

According to court records, A.G. had been held in pre-trial detention at Oudaya prison on charges of bodily harm and defamation. The case resurfaced following the circulation of videos on social media, in which the defendant was allegedly seen issuing explicit threats to the victim.

The public prosecutor’s office, led by Khalid Rkik, instructed the judicial police in Marrakesh to investigate the matter. Authorities quickly identified and arrested the suspect, seizing a digital device believed to contain evidence related to the criminal activities.

After being questioned by the police and formally charged, A.G. appeared before the prosecutor, who ordered her continued detention. She faced multiple charges, including the distribution of false claims intended to violate an individual’s privacy, psychological violence against a woman, and incitement to commit crimes and misdemeanors.

This was not A.G.’s first conviction. In 2022, she was previously sentenced for a violent attack on the same victim, Salma, during which she inflicted serious facial injuries using a bladed weapon. Despite that conviction, she recently resumed publishing defamatory content targeting the victim, including posts glorifying and encouraging her past actions.

The case has reignited concerns over cyberbullying and recidivist violence, particularly among youth, prompting calls for stronger digital surveillance and educational interventions.
