French President Emmanuel Macron called on his US counterpart Donald Trump on Tuesday to reconsider the sweeping tariffs he has imposed on US trading partners that have raised the spectre of a world recession.
“The aim is to reach a situation where President Trump reconsiders his decision,” Macron said during a visit to Egypt. “If that means we have to go though a stage where we explain that we are ready to respond, so be it,” he said, adding: “France and Europe never wanted chaos.”
