President of Morocco’s Chamber of Advisors, Mohamed Ould Errachid emphasized that the United Nations is the “only legitimate framework” for resolving the artificial dispute over the Sahara.

Speaking at the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Tashkent, Ould Errachid condemned attempts to discuss the issue outside of the official UN process, calling such actions a diversion from genuine efforts to resolve the conflict.

He criticized these moves as driven by narrow geopolitical interests, undermining both local populations’ needs and the UN’s founding principles, including the right to self-determination. Ould Errachid urged international forums to focus on mutual understanding and regional stability, distancing from agendas that undermine peace.

He also praised the UN’s recognition of Morocco’s role in co-chairing negotiations for the World Summit on Social Development, a nod to Morocco’s commitment to social justice under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.
