The Moroccan national football team secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Niger today at the Honneur Stadium in Oujda, as part of Group E action in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The first half saw Morocco dominate possession and push forward in search of an early goal. Led by captain Achraf Hakimi, the Atlas Lions created several chances but struggled to break down Niger’s defense.

The closest attempt came in the 15th minute when Nayef Aguerd’s shot struck the left post.

Despite Morocco’s pressure, Niger managed to threaten their defense on multiple occasions, and the first half ended in a goalless draw (0-0).

Early in the second half, Niger stunned the Moroccan side with a goal in the 48th minute, scored by Youssef Oumarou.

In response, Moroccan coach Walid Regragui made several tactical changes, which quickly paid off. Substitute Ismael Saibari equalized in the 60th minute, bringing the Atlas Lions back into the game.

As the match approached its final moments, Bilal El Khannous secured a dramatic victory for Morocco with a stoppage-time goal in the 90+2 minute.

With this win, Morocco remains at the top of Group E with 12 points, while Niger sits in second place with six points.
