Morocco has imported 5,000 tons of hot briquetted iron (HBI) from Libya through the state-owned Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO), according to an official statement published by the company on its Facebook page.

The statement noted that the company’s port received the vessel GEMINI CAPO, which exported 10,000 tons of HBI to Turkey. Simultaneously, the vessel HAKKI AYKIN docked to transport 5,000 tons of the same product to Morocco.

LISCO confirmed that the shipping process began immediately after completing the necessary technical and logistical preparations, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and efficiency to facilitate swift and seamless export operations.

The company highlighted that these shipments align with its strategy to strengthen its global presence and reinforce its position in the iron and steel industry. The steady flow of exports from its port, it noted, reflects growing confidence in its products and its crucial role in meeting the rising global demand for steel.

Several Libyan officials have expressed their country’s ambition to expand trade exchanges with Morocco and enhance economic relations. However, trade between the two nations remains limited due to various factors, including the absence of direct air links and Libya’s ongoing political instability, which hampers investment and economic cooperation.
