Amid ongoing debates in the U.S. over the federal budget for the current fiscal year, Democratic Senator Michael Bennet has proposed the creation of a “special reserve fund” to finance security assistance for key American allies, including Morocco.
The proposal, introduced as an amendment by the Colorado senator last Thursday, aims to ensure that these security aid allocations remain “deficit-neutral.” Bennet stated that the funding mechanism would not increase U.S. debt or contribute to the federal deficit between 2025 and 2034.
The proposed reserve fund is intended to support U.S. allies within NATO, as well as major non-NATO allies. Countries eligible for assistance under the initiative include Australia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, New Zealand, Argentina, Bahrain, the Philippines, Thailand, Kuwait, Morocco, Brazil, Colombia, and Kenya.
Bennet emphasized that the fund would provide financial security for America’s key partners while maintaining fiscal responsibility within the federal budget framework.
