Controversy erupted after local media in the city of Ceuta reported the discovery of a tunnel allegedly linking the city to the Moroccan town of Fnideq, believed to be used for drug smuggling.
However, sources from the area have confirmed to Hespress AR that no evidence of the tunnel has been found as of yet.
According to local sources, Moroccan authorities are still investigating the issue, and no conclusions have been reached. The reports circulating are seen as mere “hypotheses” by some, due to the complexity of digging a tunnel in the region, which is separated by a valley.
Sources familiar with the area’s terrain emphasized that constructing a tunnel would require expert engineers, and the region is known for its constant security presence, making it difficult for such activities to go unnoticed.
The Spanish Civil Guard has reportedly conducted a search for the tunnel, which is said to be around 50 meters long and 12 meters deep.
The operation, shrouded in secrecy, has led to the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of being linked to drug smuggling networks, according to local media reports. Investigations continue to uncover the truth behind the claims.
