The Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA) has announced its new strategic roadmap, “Airports 2030,” aimed at modernizing infrastructure, enhancing passenger experience, and transforming ONDA into a globally competitive entity.
The initiative aligns with King Mohammed VI’s directives issued during the December 4 Ministerial Council, preparing the aviation sector for the challenges of the next five years.
During a press conference in Casablanca, ONDA Director-General Adel Fakir described the strategy as a historic turning point that integrates innovation, change, and ambition to elevate Morocco’s airport infrastructure to world-class standards.
He emphasized that the customer journey will undergo a significant transformation, covering everything from airspace management and terminal expansion to baggage handling, check-in, and boarding. This process will combine digital and human-centered experiences to ensure seamless travel.
According to an official statement, key national stakeholders, including the General Directorate of National Security, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Customs Administration, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, are working together to position Moroccan airports as strategic hubs.
This effort supports Morocco’s economic and tourism ambitions, especially as the country prepares to host major global events, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
A core focus of the “Airports 2030” strategy is infrastructure development. Major airport expansion projects will be undertaken, particularly at Mohammed V International Airport, where capacity will increase from 14 million to 35 million passengers by 2029.
This expansion is designed to transform the airport into a continental and international hub, connecting Africa with Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Similar projects are planned for other key airports, including those in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier, and Fez, to double their capacities and accommodate growing air traffic demand.
Passenger experience is another crucial aspect of this transformation. The strategy envisions a shift toward a highly digitized and connected airport experience, integrating advanced technologies to streamline check-in, security, and boarding procedures. The goal is to position Moroccan airports as modern, efficient, and traveler-friendly spaces that meet global standards.
Institutional and organizational transformation is also a key pillar of the plan. ONDA is undergoing a structural transition that will enhance operational efficiency and governance, with the possibility of becoming a joint-stock company.
A strong emphasis is being placed on human capital, with initiatives aimed at continuous training, talent acquisition, and adopting international best practices. Innovation and a culture of excellence are being encouraged within the organization, empowering employees to contribute actively to modernization efforts.
As part of this transformation, ONDA will introduce a new corporate identity reflecting Morocco’s growing influence in the aviation industry.
The “Airports 2030” strategy is a key element in the country’s broader vision for global connectivity, economic growth, and tourism development. With these ambitious plans, Morocco is poised to become a major aviation hub, reinforcing its strategic position as a gateway between continents and ensuring its airports meet the highest international standards.
