Saudi Arabia has confirmed that no alcohol will be permitted during the 2034 World Cup, according to the country’s ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud.
In an interview on LBC, Prince Khalid stated that alcohol would not be sold at any venues, including hotels, throughout the tournament. This decision aligns with Saudi Arabia’s cultural and legal stance on alcohol, as the country adheres to strict regulations regarding its consumption.
He clarified that while fans are free to drink upon leaving the country, there will be no alcohol available during the tournament.
He compared the situation to the country’s dry climate, adding that Saudi Arabia is happy to accommodate visitors but does not intend to change its cultural values to suit others.
This follows similar debates about alcohol sales during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
