Morocco, along with Peru and Israel, dominates the global avocado market, despite the dynamic shifts in supply and demand.
The country has seen significant growth in both avocado cultivation and exports, with production rising from 60,000 tons to 90,000 tons.
According to FreshPlaza, Morocco exported 42,000 tons of avocados between October and December 2024.
Morocco continues to be a key supplier, providing large, high-quality avocados and posing growing competition to Spain in the European market. Italian traders note that Morocco now leads in avocado sales, followed by Spain and Portugal, with avocados becoming as common as bananas in daily diets.
Spanish farmers have acknowledged Morocco’s increasing presence in key markets like the UK and Europe, which has affected Spain’s exports.
Morocco’s abundant avocado production has led to a significant drop in prices.
The season, which began in October 2024, is expected to run until March or April, aided by favorable weather conditions and expanding avocado orchards.
