The families of four Moroccan truck drivers who vanished near the Burkina Faso-Niger border have issued an urgent plea to the Moroccan authorities, requesting immediate action to locate their missing loved ones.
“We appeal to the Moroccan authorities to intervene swiftly and determine the fate of our husbands, who are the sole providers for our families,” the families stated in a letter received by Hespress.
They expressed initial relief upon reports on January 20 suggesting the drivers had been found, but said they have had no contact with them since. “We are living in a state of fear and anxiety. We don’t know where they are or why they have not reached out. Every passing day deepens our distress, and our children are waiting for their fathers with both hope and fear,” the letter read.
Amid growing concerns, sources informed Hespress AR that the captors are demanding a ransom from Nigerian authorities in exchange for the drivers’ release.
According to these well-informed sources, the perpetrators turned to extortion after failing to find valuable goods in the three trucks at the time of the abduction. Nigerian officials are reportedly engaged in ongoing negotiations over the ransom amount.
Meanwhile, professional sources confirmed that as of now, there is still no trace of the four missing drivers.
