Minister of Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, announced that the rural development program aimed at reducing spatial and social disparities is nearing completion.
He said the program has led to improvements in road infrastructure, electrification, and accessibility to basic services, with 75% of the 10,939 planned projects being completed, including roadworks, education, healthcare, and water supply.
The program allocated 70% of its budget to road projects, covering 3,246 km of classified roads and 4,572 km of unclassified roads.
With a total budget of around 50 billion dirhams (2017-2023), the program was co-financed by regional councils, development funds, and various ministries. Key results include 2,511 rural road projects, 1,981 educational improvements, and 1,462 healthcare projects.
Laftit emphasized the program’s complementarity with other government initiatives and its role in addressing regional disparities. The program’s financial execution reached 96%, with significant progress across different regions.
