Moroccan authorities have intensified their investigation into the death of a woman who passed away during childbirth at a private clinic in Casablanca. The woman’s husband was questioned for nearly four hours on Thursday by the Criminal Brigade, according to Hespress AR sources close to the matter.
The investigation, led by the Attorney General of the Casablanca Court of Appeal, seeks to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim was admitted to the clinic at 8 a.m. for delivery but was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. the following day.
Authorities are also probing the roles of the obstetrician overseeing the delivery, the anesthesiologist, and other medical staff present during the procedure. The management of the private clinic is under scrutiny as well, with summonses expected to be issued next week for questioning.
Members of the victim’s family have expressed relief at the investigation’s progress, praising the close supervision of Attorney General Saleh Tizari.
The case gained additional attention after the National Association for the Defense of Human Rights and Protection of Public Funds filed a complaint earlier this week, highlighting that a similar fatality occurred at the same clinic on the same day under comparable circumstances.
“This raises many troubling questions,” said the association, led by Abdelilah Tatouch, in its complaint.
The organization called for a full judicial investigation, urging authorities to gather testimonies from all medical personnel involved, including the obstetrician, anesthesiologist, and resuscitation specialist, as well as the clinic’s director and other staff.
As the investigation continues, the clinic’s practices and accountability are under heightened scrutiny from both legal and public watchdogs, with many concerned citizens demanding answers.
