Abdessalam Bekrat, Governor of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, accompanied by Hamdi Ould Errachid, President of the Regional Council, hosted Evariste Ngamana, President of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) Parliament, on Thursday at the Wilaya of Laayoune. Ngamana led a high-level delegation on a field visit to Morocco’s southern provinces, responding to an invitation from the President of the House of Councillors.

Bekrat emphasized the strong bilateral ties between Morocco and the Central African Republic, describing them as a model of fruitful cooperation based on mutual respect and constructive partnership. He highlighted Morocco’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with African nations under King Mohammed VI’s vision of fostering solidarity and shared development.

The governor also outlined the region’s strategic advantages, including its natural resources and advanced infrastructure, positioning Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra as a future regional economic hub. He referenced the 2015 New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched by King Mohammed VI, as a strategic roadmap to accelerate local development and strengthen regional integration with other African countries.

Ngamana expressed gratitude for Morocco’s invitation and praised the warm reception by regional officials and local representatives. He reaffirmed CEMAC’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, commending King Mohammed VI’s efforts to promote African solidarity and regional integration.

The discussions also explored the Southern Provinces’ socio-economic advancements, including the establishment of modern infrastructure, renewable energy projects, and vocational training programs. Bekrat noted that the region’s ambitious developmental model reflects Morocco’s broader strategy of sustainable development and cooperation within Africa.

Hamdi Ould Errachid highlighted the transformative impact of recent investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and renewable energy, positioning the region as a leading example of development across the continent. He invited the delegation to freely explore Laayoune and witness the region’s achievements firsthand.

Ngamana lauded Morocco’s initiatives, such as the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline project, as emblematic of the nation’s forward-thinking approach to continental integration. He emphasized the need for collective African efforts to address shared challenges and enhance mutual reliance.

The delegation also toured key development projects in Laayoune, including sports facilities, the Mohammed VI multimedia library, and the nearly completed university hospital. Ngamana concluded by highlighting the visit as a pivotal moment in strengthening ties between Morocco and CEMAC nations, fostering new opportunities for cooperation rooted in a win-win South-South partnership.
