Ilyas El Malki, captain of the Moroccan team in the “Kings League” tournament, expressed his gratitude to the Moroccan people for their support, encouragement, and engagement during the event held in Italy, where the national team reached the semifinals.
Speaking at a reception hosted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Professional League in honor of the Moroccan team, El Malki said, “I thank His Majesty the King, Fouzi Lekjaa, Abdessalam Belkchour, and Abdelatif Taif Maqtrid for their support.”
El Malki added, “Fouzi Lekjaa called me on the day of the quarterfinal match against the United States. I shared this with the players, which had a motivating impact on the team and contributed to our victory.”
Reflecting on the team’s journey, El Malki stated, “We aspired to win the title, but reaching the semifinals is no small feat, especially considering this was our first participation. We also faced challenging circumstances, including players being affected by my imprisonment and the delayed departure of the delegation to Italy, arriving just one day before the competition began. However, Fouzi Lekjaa, with mediation from Maqtrid, stepped in to secure support and provide essential supplies for the team.”
El Malki also hinted at the possibility of hosting the Kings League tournament in Morocco in the near future, saying, “God willing, the tournament will be organized in Morocco. Fouzi Lekjaa mentioned this to me.”
Regarding the financial prize allocated to the Moroccan team by the tournament organizers for reaching the semifinals, El Malki said, “We haven’t received the financial reward yet, but the majority of it is planned to be allocated to Said Alouni, known as “Lawla Dorof.'”
